Several Upper Blackstone employees attended the annual New England Water Environment Conference in Boston this January, where thousands of clean water industry professionals exchange information and state-of-the-art concepts in wastewater treatment and other water environment issues.Deputy Director Michael Andrus speaking on regional biosolids solutions

Deputy Director Michael Andrus participated in a well-received panel discussion regarding Biosolids Management Risks and Regionalization Solutions where he discussed the New England Regional Biosolids (NERB) project, where Upper Blackstone has collaborated with the Narragansett Bay Commission and the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission to determine the feasibility of a regionalized biosolids processing facility.

Staff EngineStaff Engineer Ethan Cox with his winning flood mitigation teamer Ethan Cox participated in the Young Professionals’ Flood Mitigation Showdown, designing a solution to a flooding scenario with a chance to test their design with a floodplain simulation system.  Ethan’s team claimed bragging rights with their first-place flood mitigation design!

We closed out the conference at the Awards Luncheon, where Engineer-Director/Treasurer Karla Sangrey received the Massachusetts Alfred E. Peloquin Award, which recognizes her contributions to excellence in plant operations and dedicated service to NEWEA.
